Color, compassion and humor unite the imaginative and diverse work of Andrew Shows, painter and sculptor. Living and teaching art on the Navajo Reservation in western New Mexico in the early 1970's nurtured a feeling for the culture and landscape that now inspires his painting. Andrew's paintings have been exhibited by art galleries throughout the United States and Canada and are found in many private collections. In 1983, he was awarded a commission from the city of Albuquerque "Art in Public Places" program to construct a steel sculpture of his sixty-six foot long fabricated, plumed serpent "Kolowisi." It was placed at 8th and Lomas Boulevard in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has delighted people ever since. Shows continues to live in New Mexico, where he cherishes the richness of the people and land that brought him there 35 years ago. It still is an inspiration to his work. His love affair with the pink mountains, the azure sky, and the golden sunsets is everlasting.
